The rules
You get 90% of your average weekly earnings for the first six weeks, then £194.32 or 90% of your average weekly earnings, whichever is lower, for the next 33 weeks. To qualify you must earn at least the lower earnings limit on average and have worked for your employer continuously for at least 26 weeks continuing into the qualifying week, which is the 15th week before the week your baby is due. Any weeks paid before 5th April 2026 used the earlier rate of £187.18. The eligibility test uses the lower earnings limit in force at the end of the qualifying week (the Saturday). Pay weeks from 4th April 2027 are shown as projections until the 2027-28 rate is published.
